1. Statement of Intent
Harris and Moore Bespoke Ltd is fully committed to ensuring the health, safety, and welfare of all employees, contractors, clients, visitors, and members of the public who may be affected by our activities. We will comply with the Health and Safety at Work etc. Act 1974, the Management of Health and Safety at Work Regulations 1999, and all other relevant health and safety legislation and industry best practices.

We aim to continually improve our health and safety performance through active management, monitoring, training, and consultation.

2. Responsibilities

2.1 Directors and Senior Management

  • Lead by example and foster a strong safety culture throughout the company.

  • Ensure appropriate resources (time, people, money, and equipment) are allocated to manage health and safety risks.

  • Set clear objectives for continual improvement in health and safety.

  • Monitor and review health and safety performance and ensure this policy is reviewed annually.

2.2 Site Managers / Supervisors

  • Implement the health and safety policy on-site.

  • Conduct site inductions and ensure risk assessments and method statements (RAMS) are followed.

  • Carry out regular site inspections and toolbox talks.

  • Enforce safe systems of work and report any unsafe behaviour or conditions.

2.3 Employees and Operatives

  • Take reasonable care for their own health and safety and that of others.

  • Co-operate with the company in complying with statutory duties.

  • Use equipment and PPE as trained and report any defects or concerns.

  • Immediately report all incidents, near-misses, or unsafe conditions to supervisors.

3. Risk Assessment and Safe Working Practices

  • All works will be preceded by suitable and sufficient risk assessments and method statements (RAMS).

  • Site-specific hazards will be identified, assessed, and controlled.

  • Regular reviews will be conducted to ensure controls remain effective.

4. Health Surveillance and Occupational Health

  • We will assess health risks such as noise, dust, vibration, manual handling, and hazardous substances (COSHH).

  • Health surveillance will be provided where legally required or identified through risk assessments.

  • Employees will be encouraged to report symptoms of occupational illness early.

5. Training and Competency

  • All employees will be provided with appropriate information, instruction, training, and supervision.

  • Site operatives will hold valid CSCS cards (or equivalent) and have the necessary qualifications for their roles (e.g. PASMA, IPAF, Asbestos Awareness).

  • Training records will be maintained and reviewed regularly.

  • Supervisors and managers will receive additional training in leadership and CDM duties.

6. Subcontractors and Supply Chain

  • Subcontractors will be vetted for competence and health and safety performance prior to engagement.

  • All contractors must supply their own RAMS, insurances, and evidence of training before starting work.

  • We will monitor and audit subcontractor performance during projects.

7. Accident Reporting and Investigation

  • All accidents, incidents, near misses, and dangerous occurrences will be reported and recorded in line with RIDDOR requirements.

  • Investigations will be conducted to determine root causes and implement corrective actions.

  • Learnings will be shared with relevant staff through toolbox talks or briefings.

8. Emergency Preparedness

  • Each site will have an Emergency Plan detailing evacuation procedures, fire points, and first aid arrangements.

  • Trained first aiders and fire marshals will be present on site where required.

  • Emergency contact details will be clearly displayed on-site.

9. PPE (Personal Protective Equipment)

  • PPE will be issued free of charge where required and its correct use will be enforced.

  • Standard site PPE includes safety boots, high-visibility clothing, hard hats, gloves, and eye protection.

  • Task-specific PPE will be provided based on risk assessments (e.g. respiratory protection, hearing protection).

10. Consultation and Communication

  • Harris and Moore Bespoke Ltd will consult with employees on matters affecting their health and safety.

  • Regular toolbox talks, briefings, and safety meetings will be held.

  • Workers are encouraged to suggest improvements and report concerns without fear of reprisal.

11. Monitoring and Review

  • Health and safety audits and site inspections will be conducted periodically.

  • Performance will be monitored using KPIs (e.g. number of incidents, training compliance).

  • This policy will be reviewed at least annually or following significant changes in operations or legislation.

12. CDM Regulations

  • As a Principal Contractor or Contractor under CDM 2015, we will ensure all legal duties are discharged, including:

    • Appointment of competent persons.

    • Preparation of Construction Phase Plans.

    • Ensuring cooperation and coordination between all duty holders.

    • Provision of site inductions and welfare facilities.
